Unique Work Materials: Hay bales, foam, wood, paint
omerarbel.com
Omer Arbel’s 41.0 is a spatial intervention crafted using an experimental casting technique wherein hay bales are arranged haphazardly by hand, and then encased in foam. The hay bales are then removed, revealing the negative shape formed by the foam. Wood boxes are placed within the hay bales to create crisp, rectangular voids, contrasting with the irregular form of the surrounding foam. The resulting work feels both of this world and beyond it, at once fluid and grounded.
Within Crafting Community, the work becomes a gathering space for smaller objects from both Berlin and around the globe that champion collective care and a deep-rooted respect for ancestral knowledge.
The Vancouver-based multidisciplinary artist and designer’s broad output spans material research, lighting design, architecture, and site specific installations. He is also cofounder of Bocci, a Canadian design and manufacturing company
