2026 Guatemalan jade and other metamorphic rock, metal  Created from minimally altered, locally sourced Guatemalan jade and other metamorphic rock, Clara de Tezanos’s Timekeepers reimagine familiar forms and symbols as contemplative objects that reconsider our relationship with time, memory, and the cosmos. Honoring the histories held within these materials, the works connect geological time with human experience.

Together, these works explore different ways of orienting ourselves within larger cosmic and earthly cycles. Rooted in a landscape rich with geological, cultural, and ancestral histories, and informed by Maya cosmology, local archaeological sites, and sacred landscapes, they suggest that time is not only measured in hours, but experienced through cycles of light, matter, memory, and connection.

Bringing together scientific observation and spiritual reflection, Timekeepers honors the interconnected systems that shape both human life and the universe around us. Rather than treating time as something to master, these works invite us to inhabit it with greater awareness and wonder, serving as daily reminders of our place within time, the natural world, and the larger cosmos. Together, they transform the act of keeping time into an invitation to consider how we choose to live, connect, and care.
