Created through a collaboration between designer Lionel Jadot and textile artist Olivia Babel, Artefact 00 explores the extraordinary journeys of matter—from the cosmos, through the Earth, and into the objects humans create. Inspired by meteorites, ancient fragments of celestial bodies that have traveled across vast distances before reaching our planet, the work reflects on the profound connections that bind all forms of matter together.
Babel’s woven textile evokes the turbulence and beauty of a meteorite’s journey, balancing forces of rupture and resilience with moments of softness and exchange. Jadot’s sculptural element incorporates repurposed industrial materials, transforming remnants of human production into a contemplative object. Together, they reveal a continuum between cosmic history, human ingenuity, and the materials we transform.
Conceived as a future artifact, Artefact 00 asks what traces we will leave behind—and what they might reveal about how we understand our relationship to the cosmos, technology, and the world we inhabit.
